The
delightful medieval market town of Chateaubriant is about 20 minutes drive
away and here you can find the major supermarkets, the colourful Wednesday
market, a wide range of other shops, banks, bars, pavement cafes and
restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets – and children are very welcome.
Night life tends to centre around the bars and restaurants but there is also
a bowling alley, cinema, theatre and Olympic sized swimming pool etc.
The
old town has an interesting chateau which is a mix of the medieval and the
renaissance. Its grounds are open for the public to enjoy and in addition,
the chateau hosts a number of events throughout the year such as concerts,
plays and picnics, musical entertainment and open air cinema, many of which
are free. The chateau’s ramparts offer a view over the town, the little
river Chere, a fishing lake and the surrounding area including l’Eglise de
Bere which is a well-known Romanesque church.
